Phosphate FS
Product Number : 1 5211
Description
Phosphorus is found in the body as phosphate, mainly as an inorganic material for bone, as well as in phospholipid cells and nucleic acids and adenosine triphosphate, which are involved in energy transfer. In plasma it is present as calcium phosphate; therefore, plasma phosphorus levels are strongly related to calcium levels. Measurement of phosphorus in serum and urine is mainly performed to detect disorders of the kidneys, bones and parathyroid glands. Elevated concentrations are found in renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, pseudo-hyperparathyroidism and loss of bone and cell calcium phosphate. Impairment occurs in malabsorption, hyperparathyroidism and vitamin D deficiency. Additional information can be obtained by adding calcium measurements.
